Eric March has had a 30+ year career in
local government, most recently as District Manager of East Torrens
in the eastern suburbs of Adelaide. His career also included terms
as CEO of Mannum and Katherine in the Northern Territory, as its
first CEO At Mannum he implemented community development and economic
development programs and the success of these programs is witnessed
by his appointment as a life member. The population of Katherine
doubled during his five years as CEO and so he has a demonstrated
ability to manage local government during times of great change.
His interest in IT resulted in the successful computerisation of
Katherine's operations and subsequently in the implementation of
advanced IT systems at East Torrens. East Torrens was the first
council in South Australia to develop a web site and to provide
a free Internet service as an incentive to local business. The council
has been recognised as a leader in the field of IT, including the
implementation of advanced local government accounting and management
systems.
